Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, local government spokespeople confirmed on late Wednesday. The fighter was caught in a vehicular crash outside Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of two of his valued colleagues.
The boxer had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter confirmed on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on X that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
“Joshua and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two friends who passed away as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. The official further stated that the champion was filled with sorrow and overcome with emotion over the loss of his two dear friends.”
The news of his discharge follows the sports world offered condolences for the champion in the aftermath of the devastating accident.
