The club confirmed they will play at the still-under-construction Camp Nou on Saturday. They will welcome Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish league two and a half years since relocating to allow renovations to start.
“Returning home was our dream. Finally, it’s happening. We are back at Spotify Camp Nou.”
The stadium will not be at full capacity though over 45,000 attendees will be allowed to watch as per the current authorization. When completed, the Camp Nou is due to hold close to 105,000 fans, increasing from the former 99,000. Officials confirmed recent additions comprise a renovated tunnel for players plus modern locker rooms.
Barcelona held an open training session inside the stadium in early November. The club said they were hoping for permission from European football’s governing body to play their next home Champions League game against Eintracht Frankfurt on 9 December in the renovated venue. Their recent games have been held in the temporary ground.
