Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the duo.
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt prepared to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has elapsed that I can now express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced spending more time together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the production, remarking that he cannot recall "any day without joy".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Recently, a Los Angeles judge ruled to bar the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive put a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" connected to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the result of foul play, with a official listing noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Following the tragedy, public personalities expressed divergent reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making divisive remarks that were widely condemned by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the detractors last week. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disappointing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an aide could have stepped in when the choice to speak on the passing was made.
